BoomX is a new canna-business in Massachusetts with unlikely beginnings: the owners, the Cardillo family, started the company after nearly 75 years in the construction industry.

Started by Anthony “Red” Cardillo in 1948, A. Cardillo & Sons Inc was a multi-divisional general contractor and real estate developer run by the family — which helped form a solid foundation for their next business venture in cannabis. BoomX does it all: cultivation, manufacturing and retail sales through a dispensary in Shirley, Massachusetts, with another soon to open in Waltham. The company is all about offering something for everyone, and finding the right products to suit each customer’s needs.

Breaking ground on the basics

When this client approached us, they needed all the core elements to market their business: a name, branding and a website.

A top priority for the client was incorporating a construction theme into the cannabis brand name and website, which was challenging due to vast differences between the two industries. Ultimately, BoomX made the top of the name list (Boom refers to a boom truck with a hydraulic crane that is a must-have on construction sites). A slogan created during the content phase helped bridge the Cardillos’ two business ventures: “After decades of diggin’, we created a boom.”

BoomX: a brand under construction

After establishing a name, we dove into the visuals and web design. The brand colors were set: a mix of maroon, burgundy, lavender, copper tones, black, white and silver. Using mood boards as a starting point:

  • Our team drew inspiration from sleek, professional designs and dark imagery with purple and maroon hues.
  • Lines from design plans for excavator models were echoed throughout the website, along with colorful backgrounds and modules of bold text.
  • We also incorporated high quality cannabis photography, including images of cannabis flower that reflected the brand’s color scheme.

As for content, we highlighted the client’s experience in construction and family business values on the homepage and “About” page. This also includes information on the dispensary locations, products, and staff bios. A blog page was set up to educate potential customers and boost the company’s SEO.

A canna-business that makes a boom

Despite a lengthy planning process, our team was able to collaborate with the client to help them achieve their cannabis brand building goals. Reflecting on our initial design inspiration, we’re proud to see how the brand development progressed over the course of the project. The final website and dispensary branding satisfied all those involved, and turned out to be some of our best work yet!

“The staff at Cannabis Creative Group were a PLEASURE to work with! We went into this process completely blind not only needing a custom website but also help with our branding and logos. They held our hand every step of the way and made the process seamless and exciting! We LOVE our logo and website and will continue to be customers for years to come!”
